1- "Shall I inform you of the gravest of the major sins?*" He repeated this three times. They said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Associating partners with Allah and undutifulness to parents." He was reclining and then sat up and said: "And indeed, the false statement." He repeated it so many times that we wished he would stop.

2- "The major sins are associating partners with Allah, undutifulness to parents, murder, and intentional false oath."

3- “Avoid the seven destructive sins*” They said: “O Messenger of Allah, what are they?” He said: “Associating partners with Allah; magic (sorcery); killing a person whose killing Allah has prohibited except by legal right; consuming usury; devouring the property of an orphan; fleeing from the battlefield; and slandering chaste, innocent, and believing women.”

5- "Whoever bears witness that there is no god but Allah alone with no partner and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger; that ‘Isa (Jesus) is the slave and Messenger of Allah, and His word which He communicated to Maryam (Mary), and a spirit from Him; and that Paradise is true and Hellfire is true, Allah will @ certainly admit him into Paradise, regardless of the deeds which he has done."

6- "Whoever meets Allah without associating partners with Him will enter Paradise, and whoever meets Him while associating partners with Him will enter Hellfire."

7- "Whoever gives me a guarantee to safeguard what is between his jaws and what is between his legs, I will guarantee him Paradise."

8- "Paradise is nearer to one of you than his shoelaces, and so is Hellfire."

9- "Hellfire is surrounded by lusts, and Paradise is surrounded by adversities."

10- "When two Muslims meet to fight each other with their swords, both the killer and the killed are doomed to Hellfire*." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, that is the case with the killer, but what about the killed one?" He said: "Indeed, he was keen to kill his companion."

11- "Verily, the lawful is clear, and the unlawful is clear*, and between them are doubtful matters many people do not know. Whoever avoids doubtful matters clears his liability regarding his religion and his honor, and whoever falls into doubtful matters will fall into the unlawful, just like the shepherd who grazes his animals in the vicinity of a prohibited pasture and is thus likely to graze therein. Verily, every king has a protected area, and the protected area of Allah is His prohibitions. Verily, in the body, there is a piece of flesh; if it is sound, the entire body will be sound, and if it is corrupt, the entire body will be corrupt; verily, that is the heart."

12- "Indeed, Allah does not look at your appearance and wealth, but He looks at your hearts and deeds.”

13- "Verily, the reward of deeds depends on the intention, and a person will be rewarded according to what he intended. So, he whose migration is for the sake of Allah and His Messenger, then his migration is for the sake of Allah and His Messenger, and he whose migration is to achieve some worldly gain or take some woman in marriage, then his migration is for what he migrated for." In a version by Al-Bukhāri: "@Verily, the reward of deeds depends on the intentions, and each person will be rewarded according to what he intended*."

15- All human beings are sinners, and the best of the sinners are the frequent repenters

17- "I am not leaving behind a more harmful trial for men than women."

18- "None of you truly believes until I become dearer to him than his father, his children, and all people."

19- Whoever is attached to something will be entrusted to that thing

20- "Purity is half of faith, al-hamdulillāh (praise be to Allah) fills the Scale, and subhān Allah wa al-hamdulillāh (glory and praise be to Allah) fills what is between the heavens and the earth.* Prayer is light, charity is proof, patience is radiance, and the Qur’an is an argument either for you or against you. Every person goes out in the morning and sells his soul; he either saves it from doom or throws it into destruction."

22- "When Allah created Paradise and Hellfire, He sent Jibrīl (Gabriel) (peace be upon him)* to Paradise, saying: 'Look at it and at what I have prepared in it for its inhabitants.' So, he looked at it, returned, and said: 'By Your Honor, no one will hear of it except that he will enter it.' Then, He gave the order for it to be surrounded with hardships. He said: 'Return to it and look at it, and at what I have prepared in it for its inhabitants.' So, he returned to it and found it surrounded with hardships. He said: 'By Your Honor, I fear that no one will enter it.' He said: 'Go to Hellfire and look at it and at what I have prepared in it for its inhabitants.' So, he looked at it and found that its parts are piling up one over another. Then, he returned and said: 'By Your Honor, none will enter it.' He gave the order for it to be surrounded with desires. Then, He said: 'Return and look at it.' He looked at it and found it surrounded with desires. He returned and said: 'By Your Honor, I fear that no one will be saved from it except that he will enter it.'"

28- "Whoever sincerely asks Allah for martyrdom, Allah will make him reach the status of martyrs even if he dies on his bed."

29- "The believer, man or woman, will continue to be tested concerning his or her self, children, and property until they meet Allah without any sins in their record."

30- "How astonishing the believer's affair is! Indeed, all of his affairs are good, and this is for none but the believer*. If something good happens to him, he is grateful, which is good for him; and if something bad happens to him, he shows patience, which is good for him."

31- Shall I tell you what I fear more for you than the Antichrist? They said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. He said: Hidden polytheism; when a man gets up to pray and improves his prayer because he sees another man watching him

32- 'A man will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and thrown into Hellfire, and his intestines will slip out and he will go around by them like a donkey goes around a millstone*. The dwellers of Hellfire will gather around him and say: 'So-and-so, what is the matter with you? Did you not use to command us to do right and forbid us from doing wrong?' He will reply: 'Yes, I used to command what is right, but I would not do it myself, and I used to forbid doing what is wrong, but I fall into it myself''"

33- We were in the company of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) when he heard a bang. Thereupon, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you know what it is?" We said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said: @"This is a stone that was thrown into Hellfire seventy years ago and it was falling into Hellfire until it reached its bottom."

34- I was with Sa‘īd ibn Jubayr when he said: Who among you saw a shooting star last night? I said: It was I. Then I said: In fact, I was not (busy) in prayer, but I was stung by a scorpion

35- "There is no contagion, nor is there any evil omen in birds, nor is there any evil omen in the owl, nor is there any evil omen in Safar, and run away from the leper as you would run away from the lion."

36- No soul gets killed wrongfully without the first son of Adam taking guilt for its blood because he was the first to institute the practice of murder

38- In Paradise, there are one hundred degrees that Allah prepared for those who make Jihad in the cause of Allah. The distance between each two degrees is like the distance between the heaven and earth

39- Were this world worth a wing of a mosquito in the sight of Allah, He would not have given the disbeliever a drink of water thereof

40- Two eyes will not be touched by the Fire: an eye which has wept out of fear of Allah, and an eye which has spent the night guarding in the cause of Allah

41- Every Ummah has a trial, and the trial of my Ummah is wealth

42- "All of my Ummah may be forgiven except those who commit sin openly*. One kind of committing sin openly is when one commits something during the night, then the morning comes and Allah has screened it, but he says: 'O So-and-so, last night, I did such-and-such.' Though he spent the night screened by his Lord (none knowing about his sin), in the morning he removes Allah's screen from himself."

43- "Let none of you die except while having good expectations of Allah."

44- If I had gold equal to the mountain of Uhud, it would please me that I should have nothing left of it with me after the passage of three nights, except what I might retain to repay a debt

45- This world in comparison with the Hereafter is like the amount of water one of you gets when he dips his finger in the sea. Let him see what his finger returns with

46- One day the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) sat on the pulpit, and we sat around him. He said: @"Verily, among the things I fear the most for you after me is the splendor and adornment of this worldly life when they become plentifully available to you."* A man said: O Messenger of Allah, can good bring forth evil? The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent, and it was said to him: What is the matter with you? You are talking to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) while he is not talking to you. We noticed that he was receiving revelation. He said: He wiped off his sweat and said: "Where is the questioner?" It seemed as if he liked his question. He said: "Verily, good does not bring forth evil, but some of what grows in spring kills or is about to kill except for the eater of Khadrā’ (kind of plant) that eats until both its flanks expand, then it faces the sun and defecates and urinates and starts to graze again. This wealth is, indeed, green and sweet. A good companion of the Muslim, it is from which he gives to the needy, the orphan, and the wayfarer—or as the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said. Whoever takes it unlawfully is like the one who eats but is never satiated, and it will be a witness against him on the Day of Judgment."

47- Anyone spends a pair in the way of Allah will be called from the gates of Paradise: O slave of Allah, this is good! So, whoever was from the people of prayer will be called from the gate of prayer; whoever was from the people of Jihad will be called from the gate of Jihad

49- The dead person is followed by three: His family, his wealth and his deeds. Then two of them come back: His family and his wealth, and there remain only his deeds

50- Be indifferent to worldly life, and Allah will love you; and be indifferent to what people have, and people will love you

51- I asked the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) about righteousness and sinfulness, and he said, @"Righteousness is good morals, and sinfulness is what your heart is not at ease with, and you hate that people know about it."

52- Allah is happier with the repentance of His slave than one of you is with finding his riding camel after having lost it in a desert

53- Allah, Blessed and Exalted, accepts the slave's repentance as long as the death rattle has not yet reached his throat

54- "Verily, Allah Almighty extends His Hand during the night so the sinner of the day may repent, and He extends His Hand during the day so the sinner of the night may repent until the sun rises from its west."

55- "Be in this world as if you are a stranger or a wayfarer."* Ibn ‘Umar used to say: If you reach the evening, do not wait for the morning, and if you reach the morning, do not wait for the evening. Take from your health for your sickness and from your life for your death.

56- Whoever repents before the sun rises from the west, Allah will accept his repentance

57- Shall I not inform of whom Hellfire is forbidden for? Or he is forbidden for Hellfire? It is forbidden for someone who is accessible, lenient, tender, and easy to get along with

58- The one who is afraid (of the pillage of the enemy) sets out in the early part of the night, and the one who sets out early will reach his destination. Verily, the commodity of Allah is precious. Verily, the commodity of Allah is Paradise

59- Among them are those whom the fire will reach up to their ankles, others up to their knees, others up to their waists, and others up to their collarbones

60- .

61- Hellfire will be brought on that Day with seventy thousand bridles; and with each bridle, there will be seventy thousand angels pulling it

62- "The strong believer is better and dearer to Allah than the weak believer, and there is good in both.* Adhere to whatever brings you benefit, seek the help of Allah, and do not feel helpless. If something befalls you, do not say: 'Had I done such-and-such, it would have been such-and-such;' rather, say: 'Allah has decreed, and whatever He wills, He does.' Indeed, 'if' opens the way before the devil to act."

63- The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the foremost deed that leads people to Paradise, and he replied: Fear of Allah and good character. Then, he was asked about the most things that lead people into Hellfire, and he said: The tongue and the private parts

64- Shall I tell you what ‘ada is? It is calumny which is committed among the people

65- Wretched is the slave of the dinar! Wretched is the slave of the dirham! Wretched is the slave of Khamīsah! Wretched is the slave of velvet! If given, he is pleased, but if not, he is displeased. May he be wretched and may he relapse, and if he is pierced with a thorn, may he not find anyone to take it out for him

66- Three will not enter Paradise: the habitual drinker of alcohol, the one who severs the ties of kinship, and the one who believes in sorcery‎

67- Soon there will come a time when the best property of a Muslim will be sheep that he will take to the mountaintops

68- The Sirāt will be placed over the center of Hell, covered with thorns similar to the thorns of the Sa‘dān. Then, people will pass over it; some will be safe without any harm, some will be safe after receiving some scratches, and some will fall down into Hell

72- The dwellers of Paradise will look at the dwellers of the lofty chambers above them in the same way that you look at a shining star far away on the horizon, in the East or in the West, due to their superiority over one another

73- A place in Paradise as small as a bow is better than all that upon which the sun rises and sets

74- The son of Adam has been destined his share of fornication, which he will inevitably acquire. The eyes fornicate by looking, the ears fornicate by listening, the tongue fornicates by speaking, the hand fornicates by hitting, the foot fornicates by stepping. The heart loves and wishes. The genitals prove or disapprove that

76- The bell is the musical instrument of the Satan

78- I know the last of the inhabitants of Hell to come out of it, and the last of the inhabitants of Paradise to enter it. He is a man who will emerge from Hellfire crawling, and Allah, the Almighty, will say to him: Go and enter Paradise. When he arrives, it will appear to him that it is full. He will say: O Lord, I have found it full

79- Do you find any difficulty in seeing the sun at noon when there are no clouds? They said: No. He again said: Do you find any difficulty in seeing the moon during the fourteenth night when there are no clouds?

80- You will eagerly seek out a position of authority, but it will be a source of regret on the Day of Judgment. How excellent is the wet nurse, and how evil is the weaning one

81- :

82- "Death will be brought forward in the shape of a black and white ram.* Then, a caller will call out: 'O people of Paradise!' Thereupon, they will stretch their necks and look. The caller will say: 'Do you know this?' They will say: 'Yes, this is death.' By then, all of them will have seen it. Then, it will be announced again: 'O people of Hellfire!' They will stretch their necks and look. The caller will say: 'Do you know this?' They will say: 'Yes, this is death.' And by then, all of them will have seen it. Then, it will be slaughtered, and the caller will say: 'O people of Paradise, eternity and no death; O people of Hellfire, eternity and no death.'" Then, the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) recited: {Warn them of the Day of Remorse when all matters will be decided, but they are heedless} [Surat Mariyam: 39]. And the people of this worldly life are heedless {and they do not believe.} [Surat Mariyam: 39]

83- "Your fire is a one-seventieth part of Hellfire*." It was said: "O Messenger of Allah, it would have been enough." Thereupon, he said: "It is sixty-nine parts in excess of (the heat of) fire in this world, each of them being equivalent to its heat."

84- "Do not seek knowledge in order to show off in front of the scholars, or to argue with the foolish;* or to get the higher status in gatherings. Whoever does that, the Fire, the Fire."

85- :

86- The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: {It is He Who has sent down to you the Book. In it are definite verses, which are the foundation of the Book, while others are ambiguous. Those with deviant hearts follow the ambiguous verses, seeking discord and seeking their [false] interpretation. But no one knows their [true] interpretation except Allah. And those who are well-grounded in knowledge say: "We believe in it. It is all from our Lord." None will take heed except people of understanding} [Surat Āl ‘Imrān: 7]. Then, he said: "@If you see those who follow the ambiguous verses, they are those whom Allah has named; so, beware of them.*"

87- "There is no man who commits a sin, then gets up and performs Tahārah (ritual purification), then performs prayer, then seeks forgiveness from Allah, except that Allah forgives him*." Then, he recited this verse: {And those who, when they commit a shameful act or wrong themselves, remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins.} [Surat Āl ‘Imrān: 135]

88- The extent to which they betrayed you, disobeyed you, and lied to you will be measured against how much you punish them

89- When the following verse was revealed @{Then, on that Day, you will definitely be questioned about your worldly pleasures.}* [Surat at-Takāthur: 8], Az-Zubayr said: "O Messenger of Allah, which pleasures will we be asked about; there are only the two black things: dates and water?" He said: "This will certainly come."

92- "Remember the destroyer of pleasures frequently," meaning death.

93- "The trials are presented to the hearts, like a reed mat, stick by stick*. Any heart that absorbs them, a black spot will be marked in it, and any heart that rejects them, a white spot will be marked in it, until the hearts become two: one white, like a smooth rock, untouched by any trial as long as the heavens and the earth remain, and the other black and discolored, like a jug, turned upside down, not acknowledging what is good nor rejecting what is evil, except for what it has absorbed of its desires." Hudhayfah said: I informed him that between you and them is a closed door, which is about to be broken. ‘Umar said: Will it be a break, may you have no father? If it were opened, perhaps it would have been restored. I said: No, it will be broken. I informed him that this door is a man who will either be killed or die, a speech that is not full of falsehoods. Abu Khālid said: I said to Sa‘d: O Abu Mālik, what is "black and discolored"? He said: It is extreme whiteness mixed with blackness. He said: I said: What is "a jug turned upside down"? He said: Turned over.

94- A man will go to sleep and honesty will be taken out of his heart and only a trace of it will remain, like the trace of a dark spot. And a man will go to sleep again and the honesty will decrease further still, so its trace will resemble that of a blister.

95- I love you for Allah's sake. He said: May the One you love me for His sake love you

96- It is out of glorification of Allah, Almighty, to honor the grey-haired (old) Muslim, and the bearer of the Qur'an who neither exaggerates concerning it nor neglects it, and to honor the just ruler.

97- He does not belong to us who does not show mercy to our young and honor our old

98- I am a messenger from Allah to you to tell you that Allah loves you as you love him for His sake

99- The needy is not the one who can be turned away with a date-fruit or two, or a morsel or two. But, the needy is the one who abstains from begging

100- I looked into Paradise and found that the majority of its people are the poor, and I looked into the Fire and found that the majority of its people are women
